“Little Ones” programming
for Early Learning Centers

Musicopia knows that quality early childhood education is critical for student success and lifelong learning We believe a high quality education includes access to music and the arts.  


To support the ELCs and Pre-K programs throughout the Delaware Valley, our team of professional musicians and teaching artists have developed special programming to foster learning, development and engagement with the arts.

 

Our “Little Ones” series includes interactive assemblies, workshops and residencies tailored to the needs and age of your students.  Programming includes:

featuring: Leana Song

Dressed in all white, Shawn Hennessey and the world renowned percussionists of Leana Song play traditional Batá drums, congas and cajons, bells and shekeres, while singing ancient Yoruba songs to the Orishas. This interactive program engages students in Afro-Cuban music and culture through history, rhythm, dance, and song. Students will be on their feet during this rocking BatáRumba dance party!

Swati Chaturvedi introduces students to the sounds and rhythms of India through Bollywood dance. In this highly interactive program, students will learn basic dance sequences in a fun and relaxed setting.

featuring: Minas

Grammy-nominated artists, Orlando and Patricia Haddad of Minas, introduce children to the culture, music and dance rhythms of Brazil through the Samba, Bossa Nova, and Lambada styles of Brazilian music. Volunteers from the audience have the opportunity to play the percussion instruments used in Brazilian music during Carnaval celebrations.

Fun and highly interactive, this program encourages each student to act as both leader and follower as they explore rhythm and musical experimentation through this unique drumming program.

featuring: Gloria Galante

Students will move and groove in this session that invites children to express themselves, learn, and enjoy the magic of music and movement with the harp. Gloria is also available to dress as a character related to her activity such as Mother Goose, Mary had a Little Lamb, or even a princess! She incorporates Kodaly, Orff and Dalcroze based activities.

The instruments, songs, and dances from Egypt, Greece, Israel and Lebanon are presented in an interactive format that encourages student participation. Percussions, voice, oud, violin, and bass bring to life to the complex rhythms and modes of the Middle East and Mediterranean.

Using a world map, Phil-A-Rhythm transports the audience on a musical journey, traveling from country and country to explore various cultures through percussion instruments.

featuring: Lamont Dixon and MusicSpeaks

A celebration of well-known poems from preschool favorites such as Dr. Seuss, Lamont Dixon performs a lively program full of learning and fun! Mr. Dixon can even dress up as The Cat in the Hat upon request.

This performance and workshop program, by renowned percussionist Dendê Macêdo, uses instruments he made from found materials to deliver a message about protecting our environment through reuse and recycling.

featuring: Phil-A-Rhythm

Phil-A-Rhythm demonstrates the basic and exotic qualities of the percussion family, along with their origins and unique sounds. Students are invited on stage to play the instruments and are encouraged to sing along to well-known songs such as Under the Sea and The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

Phil-A-Rhythm transports students to the Caribbean in this interactive program that explores the history, rhythms, and sounds of the steel pan.

featuring: Barnett String Quartet

Barnett String Quartet uses stuffed animals, including some of the Muppets, to tell a musical story of strings. Accompanied by lots of fun and interaction between the children and the musicians, the students can try out tiny string instruments to see how they feel! This assembly is a perfect introduction to the world of string instruments.

In this highly interactive and engaging program, singer/songwriter, Alex Day, nurtures students as they unearth their musical potential through the exploration of melody, harmony, projection, and other key vocal concepts.

featuring: Alexandra Day and Leon Jordan, Sr.

Drummer, Leon Jordan, and singer, Alexandra Day, combine forces to help students explore two of the most intuitive forms of music making: percussion and vocals. Spanning genres including jazz, Caribbean, traditional choral, and current pop, this highly interactive program gets students out of their seats and into the rhythm of making music.
