This educator workshop is an introduction to Latin Rhythms and the different methods to teach them. It includes:
-Introduction to the conga drum, hand positions, and sounds.
-Introduction to the Cuban cha cha cha rhythm and the African Bembe.
Educators are encouraged to bring percussion instruments; they will play as a percussion ensemble all of the rhythms learned.
Marlon Simon has offered numerous workshops to music teachers in the USA and Europe. He is the recipient of the Philadelphia Jazz Foundation grant in 1993, Meet the Composer in 1995, Geraldine Dodge Foundation Award in 1996, New Jersey Governor's Award in Arts and Education in 1999, Chamber Music America grant for creation and presentation of new work 2006 and was named distinguished teaching artist by the NJ Council for the Arts in 2000.
