Josh Robinson
Josh attended the ATI (Artist Teacher Institute) through Arts Horizons at Rutgers University and since then has been working with kids and teachers ages 2 to 82, leading workshops, residencies, professional development sessions, school assemblies and after-school programs. Josh uses percussion as a tool for teaching aspects of communication, teamwork, creativity, leadership, discipline, and cultural awareness through music and instrument making. He was accepted to the New Jersey State Council on the Arts as a teaching artist for the 2005-2008 roster. Josh has done professional development for the Cherry Hill School District, New Jersey Arts in Education Collective (NJEAC), Young Audiences of NJ (YANJ), and New Jersey School-Age Care Coalition (NJSACC).
Topics covered in Josh’s workshops include, but are not limited to:
"Games with a purpose" geared towards communication skills and engaging the group.
Instrument making and ideas for using found object
Multidisciplinary tie-in ideas, including how to relate music to poetry and the spoken word
Latin rhythms taught in an ensemble setting.
Josh brings with him a support material list of videos, cd's, and websites to help teachers access unconventional composition techniques. These can be tools for teachers of all subjects. His goal is to help teachers learn to utilize their strengths “outside the box.”
