John Blake will work with string teachers to help them develop a curriculum that will support the teaching of varied string styles and traditions. This will afford the teachers the opportunity to explore different ways of teaching string instruments and widely varied repertoire. John has developed a method for working with students on a single element of the music (one note; one rhythm) so that they can “experience playing creatively without having to contend with an overwhelming amount of material.” From there, he builds up to much more complex forms of improvisation and music-making. John has published extensive teaching materials to concerning the pedagogy of improvisation. In addition, he incorporates styles as wide-ranging as Indian, blue-grass and traditional jazz.
