with Flamenco del Encuentro

This ensemble brings the magical tradition of flamenco music and dance to pre-schoolers.  With its strong emphasis on rhythm and dance, the program is well suited to young audiences, engaging children in motor activities that support their development.  In addition, children learn about the country of Spain using simple maps and other visual representations.  The colorful flamenco costumes and compelling rhythms draw children into this extraordinary tradtion.  Residencies with pre-schoolers allow the children to learn to dance and clap out the complex rhythms.  Final performances often include related artwork by students, such as fans and their own flags.

Flamenco del Encuentro has been on Musicopia’s roster since 2007 and includes Tito Rubio (guitar), Anna Rubio (dance), Antonia Cruz Arias (vocals), Joseph Tayoun (percussion), Monica Herrera (dance) and Cristian Puig (guitar).
