with the Barnett String Quartet

This special, seasonal assembly is accompanied by music ranging from Mozart to Leroy Anderson. The inventive Barnett String Quartet has created ample opportunities for student participation. These veteran Musicopia artists chase away winter doldrums with a musical adventure that evokes snowy scenes from different places and times. Using traditional holiday music as their means of transportation, students take a musical sleigh ride through three different countries. The assembly’s sing along component is perfect for pre-school and elementary school audiences.

This versatile quartet also explores the idea of musical themes by relating the varied repertoire to visual images as well as to verbal descriptions of different winter scenes. Students are called upon to use their own imaginations to interpret the music. They practice being active listeners, finding their personal connection to the music through the stories they hear.

Davis Barnett (viola) is joined by Diane Barnett (violin), Greg Tepperman (violin), and Gail Abbasi (cello), who is also one of Musicopia’s founders.
