Assembly Programs

Assembly Programs

Each of our ensembles offers at least one 45-60 minute assembly program that explores a particular musical tradition and its surrounding culture. All assemblies are highly interactive, engaging students in many different kinds of activities, including: conducting the ensemble, singing songs in unfamiliar languages, participating in call and response songs, learning rhythmic patterns to play onstage with the professional ensemble, dancing new steps, locating countries associated with the music on a world map, identifying instruments that are playing the melody, and much more. Musicopia provides educational materials that allow teachers both to prepare their students for assemblies and follow up with related activities. All assemblies place the music presented in a wider historical and cultural context. A series of assemblies can also be booked to give students a broader picture of different musical traditions or a deeper understanding of a particular family of instruments.
