Bruce Bekker has served as Philomel Baroque Orchestra’s solo harpsichord and continuo performer since 1976. Under his leadership, the organization has established a flourishing Philadelphia-based concert series; embarked on an ongoing series of recording projects; developed innovative community outreach programs to school students and elderly audiences; and initiated a series of programs exploring music of colonial Philadelphia. Mr. Bekker has taught at the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University. He is a gifted program annotator and a writer on contemporary culture and critical issues in the arts. Mr. Bekker has recorded on the Omega, Centaur, and Dorian labels.
Bruce and his wife, Elissa Berardi, lead Musicopia’s Philomel program: Music of Colonial Philadelphia and have been on Musicopia’s roster since 2004.
