Peter was born in Shenyang, northeast China. Following the footsteps of his father, Yu Bin Tang, a prestigious Chinese classical musician, Peter received his early musical education at the Shenyang Music Conservatory. He was then recruited by the Central Singing and Dancing Ensemble, the top national official musical performance organization in China’s capital city, Beijing. As a member of this highly regarded performance group, Peter participated in numerous musical events nationally. He also joined the Chinese International Artist Delegation in visiting various countries.

After moving to Philadelphia several years ago, he founded the Peter Tang Chinese Ensemble. Soon after his arrival, Peter was awarded a Pew Fellowship in the Arts for Philadelphia in 2004. As the musical director and manager, Peter Tang has led his group in numerous governmental, community and corporate events in the tri-state area over the past five years.

In early 2005, Peter became the lead consultant for the Chinese music program in the School District of Philadelphia. Currently, he leads the students’ Chinese music groups at McCall School, Key School and Kirkbride School, all in Philadelphia.

Peter Tang and his Chinese Ensemble have been on Musicopia’s roster since 2007 and conduct the Traditional Chinese Music and Instruments assembly program.
