Barry Sames

Barry Sames is a musician who continues to explore new musical territory. A graduate of Temple University’s jazz program at the Boyer College of Music and Dance, Barry has performed and recorded around the world with jazz and fusion bands from the Philadelphia area. He has also directed and composed for area gospel choirs and has performed abroad with the Marlon Simon Latin Trio and guitarist Monette Sudler. Barry’s latest group M’oudswing, a Moroccan jazz sextet, mixes jazz with Arabic music. Barry was jazz artist-in-residence at Germantown Methodist Church for three years, where he composed/arranged two sacred concerts for jazz ensemble and strings and arranged a Christmas jazz concert with strings at the Kimmel Center in 2002. Barry also studied film scoring and conducting at University of California, Los Angeles and founded Intrigue Productions, a live recording facility where he produces for independent artists, film scoring and industrials such as Chuck Norris’ Total Gym, Jackie Chan’s Cable Flex, and Richard Simmons’ Latin Sweat.

Barry is the assistant Music Director at Saints Memorial Baptist Church in Bryn Mawr, PA, where he directs and arranges for the Wayman Walker gospel choir and instrumental ensemble. Barry also gives private piano instruction and Latin instrumental workshops. Barry has been on Musicopia’s roster since 2003 and conducts several different programs. Barry co-leads the Sames-Butler Jazz Vocal Ensemble with Sherry Wilson-Butler, as well as shareing the leadership of Musicopia’s other Latin Jazz Ensemble with Josh Robinson.  He is a also member of the Marlon Simon Latin Jazz Quartet and the Rhythms & Rhymes Ensemble.
