Michele Tayoun
Michele graduated with Masters in Education in Counseling Psychology in 1998 from Temple University. She has a lifetime of experience in performing and teaching the dances of her Middle Eastern heritage. She performs with the top Middle Eastern musicians from Philadelphia to New York in both dance and vocals. Her performances stretch over a wide array of venues such as various performing arts institutes and theatres, museums, casinos, international events, festivals, schools and corporate events. Her talent and love for the arts of her cultural heritage has led her in providing authentic and exciting performances, workshops, and assemblies.
Since 2003, Michele has performed professionally with Musicopia’s Spice Route Ensemble, which fuses music from a wide range of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries. Prior to her affiliation with the Spice Route Ensemble, Michele participated in the grant-funded 2000 Philadelphia Folklore Project that focused on presenting Middle Eastern folkdance in Philadelphia.
Michele’s enthusiasm for music and for teaching has kept her rooted in the music education world. She worked with Children’s World Music in 2000, counseling at a camp that exposes children to the music from around the world. She has played with the Herencia Arabe since 2000, presenting a combination of traditional Spanish and Middle Eastern dance forms and at Camp Al Bustar since 1995 instructing children of Arab extraction in Middle East folk dance.
The Spice Route Ensemble conducts Musicopia’s Journey Into Middle Eastern Music assembly and residency programs for students of any age or ability.
