Gift of Music Instrument Donations

Gift of Music Instrument Donations

Since 2002, Musicopia has been spearheading instrument donation drives for schools with students who cannot afford to rent or buy musical instruments. The Gift of Music, a statewide initiative originated by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, is active in other cities in Pennsylvania. Musicopia coordinates the Gift of Music for the Philadelphia region and to date has collected over 700 instruments for schools in need. If your community or company would like to get involved in coordinating a drive in your region, please contact us.

We desperately need money to support repairs, too.

Obtaining instruments can be one of the biggest barriers to expanding or starting music programs. Often schools cannot request an instrumental teacher unless instruments are already secured. Additionally, in many schools, instruments must be shared by multiple students, which hinders students from advancing on their instruments. Currently, the majority of instruments donated are given to schools in the School District of Philadelphia and the Chester-Upland School District.
