"I distinctly remember the day that Strings for Schools (now Musicopia) came to my kindergarten class. The memory has stayed with me because that night, I went home and announced to my family that I wanted to take violin lessons. Soon after, I met my violin teacher and I continued to play until middle school. These experiences instilled in me a lasting love of music. As a student at Cornell University, I took a music appreciation course to follow-up on this interest, and will continue to attend orchestra performances in the future. Currently, I am a non-profit lobbyist in Washington, DC where I am working to improve federal education policy. I was reintroduced to Musicopia through their music enrichment programs in after-school settings, and wanted to share my enthusiasm and support for their work, and the impact that it had on my life."

In response to the question “Why is Musicopia so important?” Governor Ed Rendell said: “Because it’s an organization committed to helping Philadelphia’s budget-strapped schools find ways to bring music into the lives of students. Students need music: it can lift their spirits, instill in them a feeling of self-worth, and inspire them to achieve.”
Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell
“Thank you for supporting the rebuilding of our instrumental music programs. Over the last few months, I have heard only praise from my music teachers concerning the collaboration between Musicopia and our Creative and Performing Arts Academies. Having professional musicians engage and perform with our students enables them to grasp key learning goals, uncover their talents and develop belief in their individual potential. Musicopia helps students experience the true joy that comes from making music. Music changes lives.”
Dennis W. Creedon, Ed.D., Administrator of the Office of Creative and Performing Arts, The School District of Philadelphia
“Musicopia is a wonderful organization that teaches children about music. Principals, teachers and students have given only the highest praise for the content and interest level of these presentations. The programs are varied and are adjusted to the grade levels of students. Musicopia truly . . . makes students aware of music and cultures from countries around the world.”

“As a teacher in the Davidson School, I appreciate Musicopia’s affording our students enrichment experiences that our Approved Private School budget can not accommodate. The children in wheelchairs responded to the beat when the staff tapped along with the music. A deaf-blind child sat next to the drum and then kept perfect time with the band by feeling the vibrations of the music. Musicopia has our full support.”
